Hiraeth presents: Samhain - A night of folk music

Come all ye ghouls and ghosts!

Resurrect your weary bones for Samhain celebrations!

A night filled with the … melodies, haunting tales, and rhythms of Ireland, Wales and England.

Combining experimental arrangements with traditional and original songs and tunes, The Witchcraft and Vagrancy Act seek to unearth the sinister side of folk music. Wailing fiddles and 3-part harmonies encounter aching drones and electric guitars in an exploration of historical music and the macabre. Expect tales of magic, murder and misery, as they create their uniquely spooky interpretation of the folk canon.

Hear the darkest tales of the Mabinogion from Cara Elin & Band. From Hares and hounds, turning boys into grains of corn, to plots to kill one’s husband. The South Welsh songstress and band bring a bit of magic to every stage they grace.

For songs that sounds like they have always been there, Spitzer Space Telescope. SST draws on Appalachian ballads, old-time music and the American folk revival of the 60s, using the forms and language of tradition to address contemporary social and political issues.
